An independent guide to planning your trip better

Marrakech in 2 days

Two days are enough for the essentials if you don't try to see everything: one day for the medina and another for one or two palaces and a break. Save the desert trip for a longer stay or choose a very short one.

The plan in a few lines

  • Day 1: the square, the Koutoubia and the souks.
  • Day 2: a palace, a garden and free time.
  • Book one experience at most: two days go by fast.

The most important day: everything essential is close at hand.

  1. Morning

    The square and the Koutoubia

Start with the city's landmark to get your bearings.

Places: Jemaa el-Fna square, Koutoubia Mosque

  2. Afternoon

    Souks

Wander the souks at an easy pace; you don't need to see them all.

    Places: Souks of the medina

  3. Evening

    The square at night

Go back to the square to see its other side.

    Places: Jemaa el-Fna square

Leeway: If you get tired, a garden inside the medina is the nearest break.

Alternatives

  • If you'd rather start slowly

Swap the order: souks in the morning and the square in the late afternoon.

Choose little and enjoy it.

  1. Morning

    A palace

Pick one: whichever best fits your interests.

    Places: Bahia Palace

  2. Afternoon Optional

    A garden or a hammam

A garden outside the medina or a hammam to end the trip without rushing.

    Places: Jardin Majorelle

  3. Evening Optional

    One last round

Repeat what you liked most on the first day.

Leeway: Allow time for your departure transfer: don't squeeze it in at the last minute.

Alternatives

  • If you're more interested in history

Swap the palace for the Saadian Tombs, about 700 m away in the same area.

  • If you want to see the desert

With two days, only a short, nearby trip fits; compare before deciding.

    Agafay Desert

If your plans change

  • If you have an extra day

Switch to the three-day version and add a nearby trip.

    Marrakech in 3 days

  • If you arrive on the afternoon of day one

Keep the square at dusk and move the souks to day 2.

Practical information

Getting from the airport
Marrakech-Menara airport is less than 5 km in a straight line from Jemaa el-Fna square. If you take a taxi, agree the fare before you get in or check that it uses the meter. (checked on ; Sources)
Palace and garden opening hours
The Jardin Majorelle opens every day from 8:00 to 18:30 (last entry at 18:00) and tickets are sold only on its official website. We haven't found official opening hours for the Bahia Palace published online: check at the ticket office or with your accommodation. (checked on ; Sources)
